Turtle Attack

I checked my leek garden the other day and lo and behold there was a foot-wide hole in the middle. Something had dug into the garden. I patched up the damage but a few plants were lost. I imagined that the culprit was a raccoon based on the size of the hole but I was wrong. This huge turtle appeared a couple of days later and I’m guessing she’s the one who did the damage trying to lay eggs. As you can tell from the picture beside a newspaper, this is a large turtle of the snapping variety. I stayed clear of it and followed it a while. It can really walk when it wants to. I’ll have to make the sides of the garden higher so it can’t climb into it.
